Description:
St. John's Wort is part of the class Hypericaceae and it is a herbaceous, perennial, heliofile plant, with ovate-elliptic leaves and yellow flowers. The scientific name of the plant ''Hypericum'' comes from'' hyper'' and'' eikon'', which in Greek means ''over an appearance”, which refers to protection against evil, demonic spirits. Hippocrates used this plant because of its anti-inflammatory action. In the nineteenth century, St. John's Wort was used in traditional medicine for the treatment of ulcers, hysteria and depression. It is also called Amber, Amber Touch-and-Heal, Barbe de Saint-Jean, Chasse-diable, Demon Chaser, Fuga Daemonum, Goatweed, Rosin Rose, Saint John's Wort, Saynt Johannes Wort, SJW, Tipton Weed etc.

antidepressant, anxiolytic, liver tonic, liver function stimulant, choleretic, cholagogue, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, astringent, antidiarrheal, local hemostatic, antihemorrhoidal, vasodilator, hypotensive.
Indications:
It is used as an adjunct against: depression, anxiety, hyperacid gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcer, biliary dyskinesia, acute and chronic hepatitis, colitis, enterocolitis, cholecystitis, biliary colic, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, neurovegetative dystonia, pavor nocturnus (night fear, terror), bronchitis, inflammation of the urogenital tract, dysmenorrhea, stress.
Side Effects:
photosensitivity and skin allergies may occur.
Directions for Use:
Adults: 2 tablets, 3 times a day, with 30 minutes before meals.
Adolescents aged 15 to 18: 1 tablet, 3 times a day, with 30 minutes before meals.
Children aged 10 to 14: ½ tablet 3 times a day, with 30 minutes before meals.
Children under 10 years: according to the doctor's recommendation, depending on age and weight.
The tablets should be swallowed with water or crumbled in your mouth (the absorption of bioactive substances is much faster). In case of difficulty in swallowing, the tablets can be broken in two.
Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
Supradosis:
St. John's wort intoxication can lead to the hypericism phenomenon, manifested by psychomotor disorders and edematous erythema.
Contraindications:
photosensitivity, pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergy to St. John’s wort, lactose intolerance.
